Canine Psychology, Dog Walking and Dependable Pet Services.
They say people resemble their dogs (or vice versa). But it's also the case that the way our dogs behave tends to be reflective of our behaviours, traits and our lifestyle. This isn't a coincidence. Scientific evidence and research shows time and time again that the mood and mindset of the owner directly affects the mood and mindset of their dog(s). Take for example an excitable and anxious dog. The owner is more often than not an anxious or high-energy person as well. Dogs (and other animals) have a keen sense of smell (they can smell fear, anxiety and stress), excellent at detecting non-verbal behaviour, and as such, animals pick up on the energy of their owners and behave accordingly. Combined with the fact that without a firm understanding of Canine Psychology (the way dogs think and learn), we are often reinforcing the wrong behaviours that lead to maladaptive behaviours. This is why dog training alone often fails to last long term, because dog trainers may not be skilled in changing the mindset of the dog and human. At The Pet P.A, we are Psychologists and we train people to improve their dog's (and their own mindset) and be better leaders for their dogs, so the outcome is a happier human and a happier dog.
Walking the dog isn't just about taking your dog out for a toilet break.
It's one of the most important things you can do for your furry best friend. But a 15 minute pee and poo walk around the corner isn't sufficient.
For your dog to be healthy mentally and physically, they need an hours walk at least once a day, every day.
Pulling on the lead, barking and lunging at other people or dogs can make walkies time stressful. Not walking your dog enough can create the same problems. Often this reduces the motivation for us to walk our dogs, which in turn increases the frustration and pent up energy in your dog, and the vicious cycle continues.
If you don't have enough time in the day to walk your dog, or you're finding it hard to walk your dog in a calm relaxed manner, we can help.
When you bring your new puppy home, you need to make sure your home is puppy-ready. Setting up your puppy for success is essential in minimising damage to your home, and all the frustration that can come from a poorly trained dog. We can help with initial toilet training, puppy training and advice on how to deal with puppy behaviours. If not managed properly from the beginning, puppy might treat your home as a giant toilet, and you could end up with damaged floors and carpets, chewed up furniture and even walls! Make raising your puppy a lovely experience, rather than it becoming an expensive nightmare.
Excessive barking at people, other dogs, or for no reason at all can drive everyone insane! But this behaviour isn't necessary, and can be stopped. It doesn't matter what happened in the past, or what breed your dog is, this behaviour is a sign that your dog is in the wrong mindset.
High energy behaviours, panting, whimpering, yelping, barking, fretting and attention seeking are all signs of insecurity and can be stopped. Dogs should be relaxed and chilled, not insecure and anxious. Your dog deserves to be happy and relaxed all the time. Lots of people think that their dog has an anxious personality, or attribute it to past history or even breed. We can show you that your dog can be relaxed and happy by changing their mindset.
